The “naughty and nice” list takes center stage this time of year, but the “thankful list” is also in order. The holiday season is a perfect opportunity to reflect on blessings and to say thank you to the people who have made our year better.
For us, our “thankful list” includes Linemen and Bucket Truck Operators and here are just a few reasons why:
- If your lights are on and your cable/internet connection is working, thank a lineman with their trusty bucket truck.
- We really don’t like heights and some of those utility poles are very tall. Did you know that utility poles range in height from 40 ft to 120 ft tall?
- Lineman and Bucket Trucks brave all sorts of weather to fix power and telecom lines, whether it is winter storms, hurricane, or just temperature extremes. Haven’t you ever seen a convoy of bucket trucks heading toward an area hit by bad storms or seen a bucket truck on the road in all softs of weather?
- They are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. After all, weather and accidental outages don’t tend to stick to tidy regular business hours.
- Nighttime outdoor sporting events are more exciting and someone needs to change the bulbs on those stadium lights! If it weren’t for bucket trucks those lights would be hard to maintain.
- We need someone with a bucket truck that will take care of really big trees which need to be pruned or taken down safely. Most arborists rely on bucket trucks or spider lifts to safely handle tall trees.
- Working with electricity is dangerous and there are people brave enough to handle the job. Did you know that lineman work is one of the 10 most dangerous jobs in the U.S.
- Last, but certainly not least … bucket tuckets and their operators are very useful to cities and towns across the United States during the Christmas and Hanukkah seasons to add holiday sparkle and cheer, and perhaps the Christmas tree star!
Thank you! The UEP Guys are very thankful for the tireless work Linemen and Bucket Truck owners and operators! Wishing you a Happy Hanukkah, the very best of the Christmas season and a safe and prosperous 2022! And yes, there should be two of us below … we are twins after all!
