Weather is something we cannot ignore in the bucket truck business. Tree trimmers get busy when high winds knock down trees, and utility companies respond when weather-caused emergencies occur. And now another hurricane season (June – November) is upon us. It doesn’t seem like that long ago that we were talking about 2017 and the monster hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas – not to mention the devastation of some other Caribbean islands.
With that in mind, here is what NOAA predicts for 2018…
Boy, wouldn’t you like to have a job that allowed such room for error?! In fairness to NOAA, and every other weather/climate forecaster, we expect a lot from them. But, the best weather minds in the world are on it, using the latest technology. So, we’re happy to get the most advanced forecasts available.
How’s that for a hedge … you know, in case the government reads this blog.
Speaking of wind damage, summer brings the monsoon winds to the desert southwest. SE Arizona and western New Mexico can potentially get 50% of their annual rainfall in the three summer months. The summer storms can pop-up quickly and bring lightning, high winds, and potentially drenching downpours that can cause flash floods. Yes, bucket trucks are needed even in the desert southwest.
This is an interesting bar graph showing the summer rainfall totals for select cities in Arizona and New Mexico. The monsoon storms in these areas don’t get much notice east of the Mississippi, but they can be devastating.
Awesome technology like satellite imagery, water temperature readings, etc. aid forecasters in projecting the cone of uncertainty or forecast cone. With that warning, people and businesses can make needed preparations for a hurricane’s onslaught, a monsoon or other weather-related events. For businesses that own bucket trucks and digger derricks, Utility Equipment Parts can get you what is needed to be ready for these weather events. We have assisted many companies that were involved in helping hurricane-ravaged areas in 2017. We stand ready to help this year as well. Buckets, liners, ropes, augers, hydraulic parts – just a few of the items we offer. And, oh, yes by the way, we actually answer the phone and look forward to your call!
